Oklahoma Coaching Staff: (B) With an elite defensive scheme and a good offensive scheme this was a good coaching job against Michigan.
Offensive Play: (C+) It is very rare to grade a team much higher than this when they are this unbalanced. The run game was non-existent and if it continues OU should not be considered a serious contender for the Playoffs.
Offensive Coaching: (C-) Very one dimensional play calling. The RB's at this level on this team should be far better.
Quarterback Play: (B-) The QB is running out of necessity and that is an awful place to be in on offense. Not an elite passer and has a poor throwing motion but a really good "football player." Half of the incomplete passes are due the side-arm throwing motion.
Runningback Play: (D-) This is the weakest position and worst coached group on this team. This group is not physically strong enough and does not show good leverage at the point of attack to be productive.
Tight End/Wide Receiver Play: (C+) This group is getting better slowly. Several routes appeared to be ran incorrectly but considering they are helping run the football they may look slightly overrated during a lot of games.
Offensive Line Play: (C-) I see potential for run blocking when the QB runs but until OU attempts to have a real running game they are going to be rated unfairly low. The pass blocking is very average during this game. To be fair Michigan's DL is a really good group.
Defensive Play: (B+) Looked like they have elite potential running full speed at all times even when they make mistakes.
Defensive Coaching: (B+) This could have been rated an A except the DB's looked out of place in coverage against Michigan. Some of the interior DL need to work on using their hands better to make up for their lack of strength.
Defensive Line Play: (B+) This DL could easily be rated in the top 3 in the country except the depth on the interior looks very average and in my view they are the reason that Michigan ran for close to 150 yards and averaged over 4.5 yards a carry.
Linebacker Play: (A-) Played down hill, tackled very well, and made good decisions.
Defensiveback Play: (B) Exceptional in run support and short passes on the edge. out of position on outside medium passes and on long passes.
My conclusion after watching this game is that the outcome could have been a lot different if Michigan had leaned on their QB more. OU's offense is overrated due to the fact that it was so bad last year. These WR's/TE's and OL are going to get better before the end of the year but this group will never be elite without more balance. If the DB's improve in coverage this could easily be an elite group.
Next game: Vs. Temple
