2025 Oklahoma Sooners 6 vs. Texas Longhorns 23
OKLAHOMA
Coaching Staff (D): Pros: None Cons: This team was prepared for a pass heavy game on both sides. This loss goes completely on the coaching staff. Texas’ QB can not win games so why scheme like you are defending the 2006 Oklahoma Sooners OA: Oklahoma was out coached/schemed by a poorly coached Texas team.
Offensive Coaches (D): Pros: inventive at finding new ways to run the football Cons: Cant run the football due to the worst coached RB room in the country OA: If the RB situation isn’t fixed this will always be a mediocre group of coaches.
QB Play (D): Pros: Played hard and ran the ball as needed Cons: Side arm passes are not consistent and get batted down OA: A mix of a bad throwing motion, an injured thumb, and a game that was a little bigger than he could handle. Was outplayed by the worst FBS QB in the country.
RB Play (F): Pros: There is some talent here Cons: The talent here is sitting the bench and the system isn’t very Run friendly. Most of these RBs aren’t strong enough to be playing RB. OA: The wrong players are getting on the field and clearly poorly coached. Changes need to be made here ASAP. This is a poorly recruited, poorly coached, and poorly developed group of RB’s.
WR Play (C): Pros: Help in the run game Cons: Inconsistent OA: A lot of passes are being dropped and tipped up into the air.
TE Play (B): Pros: Getting better every week as receivers and willing blockers Cons: Not great at Iso blocks OA: This is a very serviceable group but it would be nice for an elite blocker to emerge.
OL Play (C-): Pros: Effective Pass Blockers Cons: Not effective Run Blockers and questionable depth OA: This group is not going to get better until they start trying to develop a power run game.
Defensive Coaches (C-): Pros: This staff is better than this Cons: Not prepared for Texas at all OA: Beat by a poorly coached opponent because their game plan was set up to stop the Texas QB but their strength is the run game.
DT Play (C-): Pros: Did good vs. the pass and in pursuit Cons: Could not defend the run Needs to use the club swim and rip moves OA: This group played about the same as in the past. Played extremely hard but needed to be more fundamentally sound to find the RB’s.
DE Play (B): Pros: good in pursuit, vs. the run, and even dropping into coverage on several short passing routes Cons: The scheme consistently put this group into bad positions Needs to use the club swim and rip moves OA: This was a poorly managed group in this game because of the schemes they were asked to run. Played extremely hard but need to be more fundamentally sound to dominate.
LB Play (C): Pros: Great at pass defense on the outside and short and runs off the edge Cons: Not prepared to defend the inside run. Looked lost when asked to make reads vs. the run OA: This is a good group that clearly was not prepared to defend the run game in both the way they played and in the schemes that were being run.
DB Play (D): Pros: run support and pursuit Cons: Not very good in coverage OA: Were out played by an underrated Texas WR room and the worst QB in the FBS.
Conclusion: Pros: Hopefully this is a lesson learned Cons: This was the worst coaching I have seen this year OA: I have already heard a lot of people give their opinion on this game and my opinion is the same as it has been and this is an incomplete team. The RB room is the worst in the conference and OU can not depend on them to contribute. They should be winning games with the RB room but instead they are the biggest liability I have ever seen at OU. The secondary is lacking on medium and deep passes that aren’t in front of the defender but this is being neutralized so far by an incredible pass rush. The interior of the defense is not proven vs. the run.
TEXAS
Coaching Staff (C): Pros: Cons: OA:
Offensive Coaches (D+): Pros: Ran the ball just enough to open up the offense and come away with a victory Cons: The starting QB should be sitting on the bench. OA: Could be rated higher but this offense is having to baby its QB. Just start someone that can actually play.
QB Play (D+): Pros: learning to manage the game. Willing to run. Cons: Lacks accuracy and makes poor decisions when throwing the ball. The entire offense has been designed to pad his stats (look at all the 0-5 yard passes and high percentage passes) and build confidence OA: The worst QB in FBS. If his last name was any other he would be bagging my groceries.
RB Play (B-): Pros: Good vision and Strength Cons: Depth OA: Not a bunch of world beaters but clearly the strength of the Offense.
WR Play (B-): Pros: This is the most underrated WR group in the country. Great hands and make incredible adjustments to awful and inaccurate passes. Cons: Not the most athletic or the fastest group. OA: I can't say it enough this group is really a bunch of overachievers in every way.
TE Play (I): Pros: Cons: OA:
OL Play (C+): Pros: Above average at both Run and Pass Blocking Cons: Not great at anything OA: Overall a solid group that will be beat by elite groups.
Defensive Coaches (B): Pros: Prepared very well for the only weapon OU has the QB Cons: Didn’t look prepared to defend the run. OA: If Oklahoma had any sort of run game this group may be graded a lot different but overall good enough to get the job done.
DT Play (C+): Pros: Good in pursuit Cons: Average at best vs. run Needs to use the club swim and rip moves OA: Average vs. the run but extremely active vs. the pass and looked strong but couldn't find the RB’s. Played extremely hard but needed to be more fundamentally sound to be more effective.
DE Play (B-): Pros: played strong and fast Cons: Needs to use the club swim and rip moves OA: Played extremely hard but need to be more fundamentally sound to dominate.
LB Play (B): Pros: Tackling and pursuit Cons: Didn’t look very Strong OA: It's hard to evaluate this group considering their opponent was very one dimensional.
DB Play (B+): Pros: very strong in coverage no matter where the ball was thrown. Played well in run support Cons: Didn’t look strong enough to defend a good run game OA: Did a great job against a good QB and an average group of WR’s
Conclusion: Pros: Did a great job Defensively and Offensively Cons: Texas’ Strength is clearly the run game and it was not used to its capacity OA: The fact that Texas could have beat Oklahoma by 35 if they switched QB’s and used their RB’s better. Texas limited themselves but did a great job making it work.
